Starting Week Two

My last post was last Friday morning (July 3).  It's been almost five days and so much has already been done.

Friday - July 3:  Between the forms being removed and the tar being applied, Nick and I went out and started to clean up around the footings so we would could lay the tile.  We worked at that for probably a little over an hour before the tar guy arrived and started applying the tar to the outside of the basement wall.

My mom and dad, Grandpa Buck and Grandma Sharon, Jessica and Kristin all came over around 12 to work on things. While we were waiting for the tar to dry some, we got some sand delivered and started filling in around the outside and the inside of the garage walls. Dad was running to tractor with the scoop (borrowed from Jeff and Stacey Morton) and was moving the sand and eventually peastone where we needed it, which was a huge help.

We had a little scare with Luna, and Nick and I had to run her to the vet and get some stomach issues dealt with.  I should mention that Luna is fine and doing well now :).  While Nick and I were at the vet, Grandpa and the girls were down in hole laying the exterior tile.  We were supposed to get the peastone around 12, but they had an issue with one of their trucks and weren't able to get it delivered until around 4:30.  As soon as we got back, Nick and I went down in the hole and made sure the tile wasn't moving, and that the peastone was leveled out how we needed it to be.  Dad and Grandpa Buck were doing some maneuvering above to make sure everything was staying safe with the giant tractor moving the stone.  We finally finished around 6:30.

Nick, Luna, Kristin and I headed up to Omer that night to camp with his family for the fourth.

Saturday - July 4:  We took this day off for the Independence Day holiday.  We spent the day on the river tubing with Mike and Jessica, Adam and Nichole, Jeremy and Kate (all Barbour family) and Kellie, Gary, Jessica and Jake, Lauren and Kristin.  We ended up heading into Bay City to visit St. Laurent candy store and watched the fireworks and headed home with Jessica and Jake.  We ended up getting back home around 2:30 am, so Nick and I slept in a little on Sunday morning.

Sunday - July 5: Nick and I were pretty exhausted from the last couple of days, so we ended up cleaning up the house a little, doing some laundry (that is still not folded), and made lunch and fell asleep on the couch watching Rio until about 2:30.  Grandpa Buck and Grandma Sharon ended up coming over around 2:15 and let us sleep until we woke up on our own.  Sunday was spent cleaning up the interior of the basement in preparation for the tile and peastone.  Gary and Kellie ended up coming over around 4:30, and Zach Porter came shortly after.  Because we don't have a walk out basement, we were having to remove the extra dirt by tying gallon buckets to rope and having Nick and Kellie stand on the walls while we filled buckets for them to take out (not the most fun job).  Kellie brought over some burgers and we grilled those for dinner and were done by 7 to watch the US team win the World Cup.  Carli Llyod killed it... just saying.

Monday - July 6: I took Monday off to extend the holiday weekend and work on the house with Nick.  Nick and I had to run to Jeff McKinney in the morning to help us fill out our plumbing permit and then we headed into Charlotte to the Eaton County offices to apply for the permit.  We ran and got some groceries after and headed home.  Grandma and Grandpa were here around 12, and Kellie, Kristin and Jessica were here around noon.  We spent most of the morning finishing cleaning out the basement and pulling out more dirt with buckets.  Kristin left for a bit, and the rest of us got that tile laid and peastone around the grinder pump and the crock.  We ordered 40 yards of stone for the basement and that arrived around 4:15.  Zach came over again, along with my mom, dad and Gary after work.  My dad had the tractor again and him and Grandpa Buck were navigating and filling the basement with stone again.  Grandma Sharon, Kellie, Kristin, Jessica, Nick, Zach, Gary and me were down moving the stone and smoothing everything out.  Adam and Courtney stopped by for a bit and helped us finish off the stone in the basement by 8 last night.

Luckily my mom has been around helping with the stuff on the inside -- she's been watching Luna, cooking, cleaning up the food and keeping up with my laundry to make sure when I get inside I can actually sit down and relax.  She may not feel like it or know it, but she is just as helpful inside doing those things as she would be outside moving stone.

Tuesday - July 7:  I was back to work today, and it was rainy outside during the day so not much got done as far as the work on the house.  This week may be a little slower because we don't have much to do before the floor can be poured in the basement on Saturday.  Nick went to Jeff's shop again and picked up the supplies for the basement.  We had dug the trenches for the basement rough in plumbing on Sunday and Monday, so we had very little to dig out before Ryann and Ben came over to get the basement bathroom plumbing roughed in. We ordered a pizza and ate as soon as they got here.  Shortly after eating, Gary got here and the three guys headed down to the basement to start the plumbing.  They finished that and now we have to get an inspection and then can hopefully cover that up with stone once it's passed and be ready for concrete on Saturday.

Things are moving along very quickly and Nick and I couldn't be happier.  Thank you times a million to all of you who have helped - both physically and with encouraging words.  We appreciate you all so much!
